There's a thin, short devotional book(let) that I purchased almost a year ago titled Whiter Than Snow: Meditations on Sin and Mercy by Paul David Tripp, which basically thinks through the implications of Psalm 51. To be truthful, I haven't worked through the whole book, but I did pick it up the other day and here were some good questions at the end of one of the short 2-page chapters:
Are there places where you have been tempted to blame inside (heart) struggles on outside pressures? ("He makes me so jealous!" "This traffic makes me so angry!" "I wasn't this irritable until I got this job.")Where have you failed to seek the grace that is yours as God's child because you have successfully told yourself that your biggest, most abiding problem is outside, not inside, of you?
General Updates:
- Going wine-tasting and a picnic today for Kaitlin's birthday outing. Small group of friends. Should be a fun time--in airconditioning, insha'allah.
- After the birthday outing, the Fujitos (CHBC elder and his wife) are having us over for a college/intern fellowship night at 7pm; the usual dinner and Q&A.
- Watched the Baptist Ballers tournament yesterday (i.e. group of CHBC folk doing some short skirmishes) and grabbed coffee w/ Jonathan Leeman. He claims that he's able to be "fun" now that he's not an elder anymore; he insists on calling people "homeslice".
