The Inception.

Awesome movie. Christopher Nolan did a great job in his first movie since the Dark Knight. I don't really have much to complain about. The acting was average, but good enough that you didn't notice the acting and got caught up in the plot. Visuals were superb and the complexity of the movie required some brain-jogging--I couldn't stop thinking about some of the ideas in the movie for a number of hours after the screening. I'm still rather confused about several parts and how they cohered together; this will require a second viewing once it's out on DVD. I highly recommend it and it's worth watching in the theaters.

Most people heard about the amazing 100% "fresh" rating given to the Inception on Rotten Tomatoes earlier last week. However, within a week, the rating has dropped to 83%. It seems that there has been a sudden wave of anti-Inception critics that are trying to tone down the huge applauds it's garnering. The LA Times had an interesting article on why the boom and bust and speculates why this cycle seems to happen to so many movies. I definitely think that certain characters could have been developed better, even Kobb, but Nolan has produced the best movie so far this year.

There's also a hefty amount of speculation as to the last scene of the movie with the spinning top. The Arkansas Times's Entertainment Blog put out a nice summation of the various views out there; whether the top actually falls over or not. The most creative explanation seems to be that the status of the top doesn't matter and that "the movie is an allegory for the process of making movies, specifically the way Christopher Nolan makes movies." Brilliant.
