Pleasure versus joy.

Although writing in a context of defining moral sex as being joyful, beyond mere pleasure (but including it), Heimbach's list from True Sexual Morality can easily be applied to the allure of sin in contrast to the freedom in Christ from sin:
Pleasure is something brief and temporary; joy lasts a very long time and ever forever.
Pleasure has physical and mental limits that end with pain; joy has no limit.
Pleasure cannot stand suffering and flees pain; joy lasts through suffering and transcends pain.
Pleasure is something we can produce for ourselves; joy is beyond our control.
Pleasure is something shallow; joy is profound.
Pleasure is impersonal (pursued for its own sake); joy is personal and affirms others.
Pleasure is self-centered; joy is not.
Pleasure is morally neutral; joy is morally pure.
General Updates:
  • Had a good time at Claire's surprise birthday party up at CUA.
  • Finding myself unusually bored and unproductive because I have no real homework.
  • Kelton recently got a Kindle DX and so he's joined the club of Kindle-fans!
Reading Updates:
  • As aforementioned, I was looking into reading some Central Asian history and picked up two volumes from the library: Beckwith's Empires of the Silk Road and Hopkirk's Setting the East Ablaze.
  • Taking a break from History of Jazz until I have time to actually read it consistently, because going back and forth has translated into forgetting what I had just read.
  • Currently reading: True Sexual Morality, When I Don't Desire God, Empires of the Silk Road, The Christian Life (Brandon), Romans (Mike), Hebrews (QT)
