Handy gospel resource.

We were all blessed to receive a copy of Greg Gilbert's "What is the Gospel" at our last member's meeting. I just finished reading it and found it a wonderful resource to read through with non-believers or also use with new believers. I've generally used "Living the Cross-Centered Life" to work through with other believers, but this book definitely cuts to the heart of the issue and does a great job of being more than a gospel tract.

Greg's analysis of sin provides a helpful list of common misperceptions:
  • Confusing sin with sin's effects
  • Reducing sin to broken relationship
  • Confusing sin with negative thinking
  • Confusing sin with sins
He also addresses the idea of the "Kingdom of God" as well as discerning false gospels:
  • "Jesus is Lord" is not the gospel
  • Creation-Fall-Redemption-Consummation is not the gospel
  • Cultural transformation is not the gospel
I'm interested in seeing if it will catch on as the "hand-out" book that "The Cross-Centered Life" has tended to be.
