God hates and loves sinners.

Mike Law, Jr. brought up something interesting at Fellowship Night that I've thought of before, but never dug deep into. The question is whether or not the saying "God loves the sinner, but hates the sin" is in fact accurate. I'm under the impression that this saying actually came from Gandhi, someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that. What Mike said was: God hates sinners. He does not only hate their sin, but He hates them; He does not send sin to hell, He sends sinners.

Psalm 5:5-6 reads:
The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
But the good news is that while God hates sinners, He also loves them. Romans 5:8 reads:
...but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Worth reading D.A. Carson's "The Difficult Doctrine of Love" another time.
