Doing Things Right in Matters of the Heart.

John Ensor's Doing Things Right in Matters of the Heart is a quick read, at just 160 pages, big print, small book size. Excuse the goofy looking cover. Most useful thing about the book, I thought, was parsing out different aspects of what it means for the man to lead and the woman to submit, going beyond just Eph. 5 and incorporating helpful things from Prov. 31 and Titus 2. The table contents is helpful in the chapter titles:

He initiates, she responds
He leads, she guides
He works, she waits
He protects, she welcomes protection
He abstains to protect, she, to test
His unmet desire drives him toward marriage, hers is rewarded by marriage
He displays integrity, she, inner beauty
He loves by sacrificing, she by submitting
He seeks his happiness in hers, she seeks hers in his
He is the primary provider for the family, she the primary nurturer

General Updates:
  • The Jindoyan wedding was amazing, loved it. What a wonderful picture of the gospel in the ceremony; and we were ripping up the dance floor as usual. Only thing I held against the DJ was playing Sexy Back, but other than that, fun songs. Claire tried to teach me basic foxtrot steps.
  • Good CO luncheon in the church basement; interesting thoughts on personal ministry and expecting that the normal Christian has his/her own ministry.
  • Lunch today with the Perkins' in Alexandria.
